The quest for education, particularly university education in Nigeria is generally high.  This is buttressed by the exceptionally high number of candidates seeking placement in relatively few spaces provided by Nigerian universities.  The same pursuit for university education is translated into the obvious in Kwara State; thus requiring the establishment of more universities to satisfy the yearnings of the people for quality university education.

The idea behind the establishment of Abdulrasaq Abubakar Toyin University (AAT), Ganmo was conceived by the Founder, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Abubakar Toyin, who had his education late in life as a result of the poor background of his parents. This affected majority of his generation in his locality and the need to bridge this gap informed the establishment of the University. The location of the University speaks volume of the background of the founder who is determined to see that the next generation did not suffer the same faith he suffered.
